DVD Review

I apologize for not being more active, but not having other reviewers or books to review, it's been a little difficult. However I want to let you know about this wonderful DVD "God's Not Dead." Working at the library I found it on our shelves and took it home. When I brought it back I raved about it. I wanted to take it out again, but it seems word gets around. It's always on hold for someone else. That's great.

The opening scene is in a freshman college philosophy class. The professor states he is an atheist, and asks that if everyone will sign a paper with 3 little words on it he can dispense of the dust and get to the subject. Those 3 words are "God Is Dead." One student cannot sign that. He is given 3 chances to argue the case of the existence of God before the class.

Fueled by hate on one side and a determined love of God on the other this is not your simple movie. The poor kid researches and goes off on a journey of his own to state his case. The end is nothing short of amazing. I guess telling people stuff like this is one of the reasons I can't get a hold of it a second time. It's really that good.

STARLIGHTER, by Bryan Davis

Friday, June 11th - The Gateway and the Lost Ones

While we leave Koren to deal with Magnar, Zena and the Black Egg, let us return to Major Four and look at another story, a prophecy, if you will. Jason's instructor, Adrian, taught it to him, his mother believed in it, but Jason thought it to be just a myth. The story I'm referring to is the Gateway between the two worlds of Major Four and Dacon, also known as Starlight. It has been said there is a special Gateway that links the two worlds and through it the dragons on Dacon came and stole away some humans to force into servitude on their planet. I'll skip over the discovery of the Gateway so you will have to read about it yourself. These stolen people from Major Four were referred to as the Lost Ones. However, there seems to be little grounds to support this myth. Now let me propose an axiom to you, that may or may not hold water, but it serves the point here. While lies and deceit that are most effective, making them have the appearance of being true, the exact opposite exists when the truth is spoken. Often the very simplicity or obvious truth is deemed unbelievable for the same reason that the lie is accepted as truth.

What I mean to say is that our enemy is deceptive. He knows how we think and uses that against us. It isn't the dragons of Starlight who are the real enemy, no more than it is the person in your life that seems to heap trouble upon trouble on you. No, the enemy is an unseen spiritual enemy from the hosts of demons who watch our every step, listen to our every word, always looking for our weaknesses. And what weaknesses are best exploited? There are many to be sure, but among them is to get us to believe a lie and to at the same time turn our back on truth. Each of us have experienced this inclination. We witness a society that clings to abortion because it makes sense to kill an unwanted child, and deny the truth that God is at the very nucleus of life. We witness a society that claims that evolution is responsible for the creation of everything we know and turn our back on the Creator Himself. Why? Because believing in a Creator is more sensible, because preservation of life is more logical, therefore we have been convinced it must be false.

So what do we find out about this Gateway and these Lost Ones? We find that God created a Gateway between Heaven and Earth in Jesus Christ. By faith in Him we, the Lost Ones are once again found. No more are we bound to the lies of our enemy, but instead find ourselves bound to the Live and Truth of God's Son. This is why God chooses the foolish thing to confound the wise and the weak things to confound the mighty. For Jesus is not only our Gateway to God, but He is our Savior and Friend. We would do well to remember this lesson and not be so easily fooled by the enemy's lies.

Be sure to visit Bryan Davis at his sight. The following link will take you right to his Starlighter page: STARLIGHTER You can, of course browse through the rest of his site, which I highly suggest.

Due to problems with obtaining STARLIGHTER we only have 3 people, that I know of doing reviews, and one of them may not be able to post until later in the week. Here are the CFRB members giving reviews

And for a peek inside:

Important: Legally I have to inform you that I received this novel freely for the express purpose of writing a review. I suppose the reason they want me to mention this is so that you will understand that I didn't pay for the book, and my views on how good it is may be somewhat subjective. I can tell you that my reviews found here are both objective and not very traditional. Rarely do I review a book that doesn't deserve to be given the greatest exposure, and while my name may be unfamiliar to many, it can be truthfully said that the whole point for me is to show people that Jesus loves them. If I can do that, if this book does this, then I will gratefully take the opportunity to do so and I make no apologies for it, or for the books I review. CFRB traditionally previews these works before they are even turned over to the rest of the members for posting reviews. We do this to check on a number of things, not the least of which is their outstanding quality.
