DVD Review

I apologize for not being more active, but not having other reviewers or books to review, it's been a little difficult. However I want to let you know about this wonderful DVD "God's Not Dead." Working at the library I found it on our shelves and took it home. When I brought it back I raved about it. I wanted to take it out again, but it seems word gets around. It's always on hold for someone else. That's great.

The opening scene is in a freshman college philosophy class. The professor states he is an atheist, and asks that if everyone will sign a paper with 3 little words on it he can dispense of the dust and get to the subject. Those 3 words are "God Is Dead." One student cannot sign that. He is given 3 chances to argue the case of the existence of God before the class.

Fueled by hate on one side and a determined love of God on the other this is not your simple movie. The poor kid researches and goes off on a journey of his own to state his case. The end is nothing short of amazing. I guess telling people stuff like this is one of the reasons I can't get a hold of it a second time. It's really that good.

Coming Soon!!!

Next Week beginning with October 5th CFRB will be touring
HIGHER HONOR, by S.M. Kirland.

We hope to have a good showing of this novel, which takes some situations and places them within a military setting, driving home some strong messages. I hope you will join us.

Cassidy Sanders thought her senior year at a Georgia Military College would be easy, even though she had a tough job as the first cadet Inspector General, tasked with ensuring training met standards without hazing. But not everyone is willing to change and when Captain Chris Banton is faced with possible sanctions while dealing with the stress of his ailing father, he lashes out at Sanders, brutally assaulting her. For Cassidy, it's more proof that the God of childhood was absent, for Chris it's a stunning revelation that his life is spinning out of control faster than he ever imagined. How can they reconcile what happened and find forgiveness not only toward each other but toward themselves?

Now for something special. In cooperation with Waterbrook/Multnamuh Books we are offering the following giveaways as prizes. The first will be 2 copies of THE SHAPE OF MERCY, by Susan Meissner.

Leaving a life of privilege to strike out on her own, Lauren Durough breaks with convention and her family’s expectations by choosing a state college over Stanford and earning her own income over accepting her ample monthly allowance. She takes a part-time job from 83-year-old librarian Abigail Boyles, who asks Lauren to transcribe the journal entries of her ancestor Mercy Hayworth, a victim of the Salem witch trials.

Almost immediately, Lauren finds herself drawn to this girl who lived and died four centuries ago. As the fervor around the witch accusations increases, Mercy becomes trapped in the worldview of the day, unable to fight the overwhelming influence of snap judgments and superstition, and Lauren realizes that the secrets of Mercy’s story extend beyond the pages of her diary, living on in the mysterious, embittered Abigail.

The strength of her affinity with Mercy forces Lauren to take a startling new look at her own life, including her relationships with Abigail, her college roommate, and a young man named Raul. But on the way to the truth, will Lauren find herself playing the helpless defendant or the misguided judge? Can she break free from her own perceptions and see who she really is?

The second is a copy of FOR YOUNG MEN ONLY, by Jeff Feldhahn and Eric Rice with Shaunti Feldhahn

Women: complicated and impossible to understand? The bestselling author of For Women Only teams with her husband to offer men the key to unlocking the mysterious ways of women. Through Shaunti and Jeff Feldhahn’s national scientific survey and hundreds of interviews, For Men Only reveals what you can do today to improve your relationship.

What makes her tick? What is she really asking (but not actually saying)? Take the guesswork out of trying to please your wife or girlfriend and begin loving her in the way she needs. Easily. For Men Only is a straightforward map that will lead you straight into her heart.

Now the rules for this contest:
1. You must post a comment on one of the CFRB blogs about HIGHER HONOR and request to be put in for this contest.
2. You must include your email address in your comment so we can contact you if you are a winner.
3. All judgments are final. Since I'm shipping them out at my own personal expense those who do not win can be thankful that they are not costing me money. Those that do win can be thankful that they have won.

If you have read HIGHER HONOR, by S.M. Kirkland, then go to Amazon.com and write a review. That will earn you points towards winning this contest.

Take care and God bless you all.

COME TO ME, by Laura Davis

During the week of September 7th CFRB will host
COME TO ME, by Laura Davis.

Day 7. Here's another blog name that evades me. Exactly what is a book with extra cheese? Well, that's what Christie's blog is named. She'll be wrapping up the week of our Tag Team Tour. Now friends, if she doesn't exactly do a review, it's only because she wasn't able to get the book in time. She's tried hard to get a hold of it, but she, like Rae, is also a new member and really didn't give herself time for the mailing, the reading and the writing that goes into a review. Yet, if she manages to get an e-copy and put up a review, I'm sure it will be great. If not, I'm sure she'll post something just as interesting. Encourage her by commenting on her site. This is her first tour (and Rae's) so they might like to hear from you especially. We're proud to have people jumping right in like this. It makes us proud. - David Brollier

COME TO ME, by Laura Davis

During the week of September 7th CFRB will host
COME TO ME, by Laura Davis.

Day 6. Ah, today is another favorite day for me. Grace Bridges, a real youngster (as are a few others) especially since she's about my daughter's age, has been involved with CFRB almost from the beginning and has been so faithful it's incredible. She's brought people to CFRB, or at least pointed them to our blog, after which they became valued members. She takes her writing serious, even her emails. Yet she's full of full and life. Last month she did a face to face interview with Darryl Sloan during our tour. It was fantastic, although I think they got more out of it than we did. Still she was able to share that enthusiasm with the rest of us. I expect no less from her this Friday as she reviews COME TO ME, by Laura Davis. Now Grace has a bunch of links, so find one you can comment on, but if you get the time, browse around. You'll find her to be a young woman who is both simple and complex at the same time. If you don't know what I mean by that, then you'll just have to visit her site to figure it out.

COME TO ME, by Laura Davis

During the week of September 7th CFRB will host
COME TO ME, by Laura Davis.

Day 5. Today you'll find the review for COME TO ME, by Laura Davis on Bibliophile's Retreat. I have no idea where she came up with the name for her blog, but Forest Rose, better known to us as Melissa, will give you a great review. I can say that without reading it (yet) because I know of her dedication and humility. Like some already mentioned, and some I've not mentioned simply because they aren't part of the Tag Team this month, Melissa has helped to fill in where she is most needed. She doesn't wait to be asked, but volunteers. The review she will present I am sure will not only be insightful and accurate, but professional as well. As always, check out her site and leave her a comment. These people deserve your feedback. Don't just say, "Nice site" or "Great post". Tell her what you liked. Talk to her. She doesn't bite...I promise. - David Brollier

COME TO ME, by Laura Davis

During the week of September 7th CFRB will host
COME TO ME, by Laura Davis.

Day 4. Another day for another treat. Cathi at Cathi's Chatter has always picked up on something I've missed, or said something from a perspective I hadn't thought about, or just plain written a better review. Cathi, works hard to make sure CFRB looks good. Trust me people, if it were left up to me and my expertize we'd been out of service a long time ago. Yet people like Cathi, and the others mentioned below (and some not mentioned below) have created something for God that I couldn't have dreamed of, much less pulled off. You'll enjoy her review. I guess women writing about this most exemplary woman may have something to do with that. Check out the rest of her blog. Leave each member a message, a comment telling them how much you enjoyed their posts. This encourages us to continue on, encourages the author, and gives us an idea of how many people are really reading these posts. So don't just comment on Cathi's blog, but on all those listed below. - David Brollier

COME TO ME, by Laura Davis

During the week of September 7th CFRB will host
COME TO ME, by Laura Davis.

Day 3. Today you are in for a treat, I'm sure. Stephen Rice, at "Back to the Mountains" will be your main man for the CFRB review today. He has shown a lot of wit and humor and insight. In the past he has bowled us over twice with his "Real Fake Reviews". His ability to write a review (fake one that is) without reading the book is astounding. His insights when writing a regular review are therefore even more amazing.

But that's not all. Newcomer Rae Byuel will be posting an interview on her site. You'll learn more about Laura Davis in this interview, but what you should know is that Rae just joined. Since she didn't have time to get Laura's book she decided to interview her. That's commitment people.

So today is "Double Feature Day". Click on the Back to the Mountains and Rae Byuel icons below and enjoy. - David Brollier
